A Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) caused by a rain event and high wastewater flow conditions started at approximately 6:47 am on 1-10-2024 at Sargent Pump Station outfall, located approximately 2,000 feet offshore of Marblehead Neck near Tinker’s Island. This overflow likely consists of untreated sewage. The estimated approximate flow rate of the SSO event is 350 gallons per minute. The outfall where the SSO is occurring is owned and maintained by the Marblehead Water and Sewer Commission.
This SSO discharged directly to Massachusetts Bay.
Avoid contact with this water body for 48 hours after the discharge or overflow ceases due to the increased health risks from bacteria and other pollutants.
